Hillsborough River Challenge
City has teamed up with the Rotary Club of Temple Terrace to present an exciting new Hillsborough River Challenge canoe race and festival.
The event is Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011 starting at 8 a.m. and continuing until early afternoon. It replaces
the annual Canoe Challenge and Mayor’s Cup regatta with even more races, more activities, more
music and more fun, event organizers say.
There will be 5, 10 and 20-mile canoe, kayak and stand-up paddleboard races, along with a leisurely family paddle activity along the Hillsborough River in Temple Terrace.
All races begin and end at Riverhills Park, 329 S. Riverhills Drive.
Everyone who races will receive a T-shirt and award, with additional prizes for the winners. We’d like to thank the title sponsor of the event – Republic Bank – for its generosity in providing prizes.
Don’t have a boat? No problem! Rentals will be available if you sign up early. Thinking of buying your own boat? Tackle Shack will be there with a new line of Hobie fishing kayaks for you to test.
Want to partner with Rotary to raise money or promote your cause? Your organization is welcome to host teams and collect money for each mile paddled. You can sponsor a drawing for prizes, sell items or set up an exhibit. For more information, e-mail the club at info@templeterracerotary.org
Racing fees (includes T-shirt, goody bag, raffle ticket and lunch):
* Single ($25 if registered by Oct. 8; $30 thereafter and day of race)
* Tandem ($40 if registered by Oct. 8; $45 thereafter and day of race)
* Family paddle ($20 per person)
This is a joint project of the Rotary Club of Temple Terrace
and the Temple Terrace Leisure Services Department.
