WATER TREATMENT
The City of Temple Terrace currently has two water treatment plants located at 6009 Whiteway Drive and 520 Belle Terre Avenue. Water is supplied to the treatment plants via ten wells. Treatment includes aeration, multi-media filtration, lime softening, fluoridation, chlorination, and corrosion-control additives. Treatment operations are monitored twenty-four hours a day by State certified water treatment plant operators.

Approximately 1,355 million gallons of water is pumped and treated each year with an average daily flow of 3.7 million gallons. The City currently has four auxiliary storage tanks with a storage capacity totaling 2.2 million gallons. Water pressure from the treatment plant averages 55 to 65 p.s.i. Temple Terrace water consistently meets or exceeds all quality parameters established and monitored by the Department of Environmental Protection. Click on link below for water quality report.

WATER DISTRIBUTION
The City of Temple Terrace currently has 113.5 miles of water mains that distribute water to a population of over 29,000 throughout its water service area. The Public Works Department's Water Division is responsible for the operation and maintenance of this water distribution system.

This division is also responsible for the maintenance and installation of all water meters within its service area.

The charges for meter installation include labor, the cost of the meter, meter box, corporation stop valves and appurtenances. Meter installation charges do not include improvement (impact) fees. All meters and appurtenances remain the property of the City of Temple Terrace.

Separate irrigation meters are also available. There are no additional improvement (impact) fees for irrigation meters. The customer must obtain a plumbing permit and is responsible for the attachment of a stand pipe or other irrigation systems. Irrigation meters are installed in "off" position and locked. Before the meter is unlocked, the customer must call for an inspection.

Application and payment for new meter installations should be made at the Finance Department, Utility Billing Customer Service counter, second floor, City Hall, 11250 North 56th Street.

Typical maintenance services provided are:

  • Leak repair on City-owned water mains and service lines.
  • Meter shut-off valve repair/replacement.
  • High consumption investigation and resolution.
  • Low water pressure testing.
  • Meter testing, repair and/or replacement.
  • Turn-off and turn-on of water supply.

For requests for meter maintenance service or questions regarding water distribution system maintenance or water availability, contact the Public Works Department at (813) 506-6570.

WATERING RESTRICTIONS

Strict Watering Rules Are in Effect for Temple Terrace and surrounding areas.

The Southwest Florida Water Management District has imposed water-conservation measures that go into effect July 1, 2010.
The rules apply to Temple Terrace and other areas except where stricter measures are imposed by local governments. The rules in unincorporated Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa, for example, vary from those in Temple Terrace.

If your water service is provided by a utility other than Temple Terrace, such as the City of Tampa, you must follow that utility's water-use regulations. Your water bill will indicate your service provider.

The following restrictions are now in effect for residents who receive water service from the City of Temple Terrace:

* Lawn watering is limited to twice a week and must be done before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m. Even-numbered addresses may water Thursdays and Sundays as needed. Odd-numbered addresses may water on Wednesdays and Saturdays as needed.

* Hand watering and micro-irrigation of plants (other than lawns) may be done any day, and at any time, as needed.

* New lawns and plants have a 30-30 establishment period, which allows any-day watering for the first 30 days. During the second 30 days, watering is allowed three days a week according to the following schedule: Even-numbered addresses may water on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Odd-numbered addresses may water on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. If you are establishing a new lawn, please advise the Code Compliance Department at (813) 506-6680 to avoid being cited for watering violations.

* There are no restrictions on fountains, car washing or pressure washing. However, water-management officials ask that residents be as efficient as possible, using a shut-off nozzle on their hose, so water isn't wasted.
