FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does the MIS department do?
The Management Information Services department has a wide variety of duties that involve all aspects of technology for the City of Temple Terrace. MIS staff members perform the installation, configuration and maintenance of all City PCs, networks and associated computer equipment. We resolve any computer hardware or software problems that our City employees may have. We also insure that all City computer networks are working efficiently - especially all aspects of technology related to 911, police records and the computer aided dispatch of Police and Fire.

What types of computers does the City use?
For the employee's workstations, the City of Temple Terrace utilizes business class personal computers connected to a Microsoft Windows 2003 network.

Most of our financial applications reside on an IBM AS/400, while our public safety information (911, Police Records, Fire Records) is stored on several network file servers running Windows 2003 Server. Our Police officers use laptop computers in their patrol cars which connect up to City Hall using GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) connections.

What types of software applications are used?
A wide array of software applications are used by different members of the City staff to accomplish their duties. For instance:

Police officers on patrol can write police reports while in the field as well as running confirmations on auto tags and driver's licenses.

Recreation employees can schedule members in classes, reserve recreation facilities for use and issue recreation memberships.

Public Works staff can keep track of all of our City vehicles and their maintenance schedules.

Public Works can perform traffic analysis on street volume and speed.

Our Finance employees process all the payments for water & sewer utilities and issue checks to the City's numerous vendors.

Our Community Development staff can issue permits, track inspections, review code violations and map the City's streets and infrastructure using Geographic Information Systems.
