FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS * Will the Fire Department service my fire extinguisher? No, the department does not service fire extinguishers. The recommended extinguisher for home use is a "dry chemical" extinguisher, generally type 2A-10BC. * What type of smoke alarm should I buy for my home? The Fire Department cannot recommend specific manufacturers. We do recommend that alarms, both hard-wired and battery powered, be U.L. approved. A heat detector may be used as additional protection in attics, garages or other places where smoke detection may be delayed. * Where should I install the smoke alarm?
