FIRE DEPARTMENT AWARDS

2005 Firefighter of the Year - Andrew MuzzyCapt. Charlie Bridges, Sr. has earned the Temple Terrace Fire Department's 2007 "Firefighter of the Year" award. Capt. Bridges began his career with the department on June 13, 1982 as a firefighter. He then completed the Emergency Medical Technician training and later was promoted to engineer at both fire stations. Bridges earned his promotion to captain in September 2005.

Capt. Bridges and his wife, Patricia, live in Brandon. They have two adult children: Charlie, Jr., who is a firemedic for Hillsborough Co. Fire Rescue; and daughter Rene, a certified EMT who is pursuing her paramedic certification.

Capt. Bridges currently is assigned to Engine 11 at Fire Station No. 1 and is responsible for overseeing the fire hydrant maintenance and testing program, as well as quality assurance for the City's traffic signal Opticom system. He also has served on the department's accreditation committee and as president of the IAFF Local 3582 for several years.

Capt. Bridges has demonstrated excellent leadership qualities and has earned the respect of his peers by setting an example on a daily basis. He has contributed to many projects and is a true asset to the fire department and the community.
