FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can I get a flood zone determination for an address or particular piece of property?
Yes, as part of our community service and an ongoing National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP), the Engineering Department will furnish assistance in determining flood zones for specific properties within our City. To accurately determine a zone for a property, an address, folio, or lot and block number will be required.
Can I obtain the flood zone determination information in writing?
Yes, a form letter identifying the property and determination will be prepared for signature by the City Engineer. This form letter can be mailed, faxed, e-mailed or it may be picked up at our physical location of 11210 North 53rd Street, Temple Terrace, Florida.
I noticed a depression in the ground that developed in my yard or on my property. Can someone look at it for me?
If the depression or hole continues to get larger, an Engineering Inspector can conduct a site investigation. In most cases the depression is caused by buried debris or a tree stump that has decomposed and created a void. It is suggested that the hole /depression be filled with clean soil and watered down for compaction, and then observed for any further activity. If the hole reappears or gets larger, it is suggested that the resident's homeowners' insurance company be contacted.
Can your department help me with a drainage problem on my street or property?
Yes, the City Engineer or his representative will schedule an appointment to meet with you and review the problem.
Who can help me with a question about the construction project going on in my neighborhood or on my street?
The Engineering Department is responsible for the construction observation of all City projects and can provide information for construction in your neighborhood. Sometimes the construction is through a utility company (Tampa Electric Company, Time Warner, Verizon, etc.), and the Engineering Department can be contacted for additional information.
Will sidewalks be constructed in my neighborhood?
The Engineering Department oversees the Six-Year Capital Improvement Program (CIP). Sidewalks, as well as other infrastructure improvements are included in the CIP. Please refer to the link CIP for this year's scheduled projects, or call (813) 506-6560 for more information.
Whom shoulsd I contact about getting an additional street light in my neighborhood?
Contact the Engineering Department at (813) 506-6560 with your request. The location will then be reviewed, and if it is determined that additional street lighting is needed, Tampa Electric Company will be contacted. In certain instances, tree trimming around existing street lights will alleviate the problem.
Can I have speed humps installed on my street?
A request for speed humps must be submitted in the form of a petition to the City Manager's office. The petition must contain the signatures of 50% of the residents requesting the speed humps for that section of street. The City Engineer is then requested by the City Manager to conduct a study to determine if the warrants established by City Council justify speed hump installation. Minimum warrants are 1,000 vehicles per day, and more than 15% of the traffic exceeding 35 miles per hour. Also, speed humps will not be installed on City-designated collector streets.
