POOL AND SPA INSPECTIONS

Pool inspection sequence differs from most others because of the fact that several trades are involved the initial stage of construction thus allowing more than one inspection on each visit. At the least the following shall be required for approval of pools.

1st Scheduled Inspection - This inspection is typically scheduled after the pool excavation has been done and bedding has been put in the excavation, the main drain installed and stack tested (filled with water top 5’ above grade) and all structural steel is in place.

2nd Scheduled Inspection - This inspection shall be scheduled when the decking is formed, all reinforcement in place and prior to pouring of concrete. An electrical inspection shall be scheduled also at this time to inspect electrical bonding of steel, equipment grounding and fixture bonding. Decking installed without inspection of proper grounding shall be subject to concrete removal for this crucial inspection.

Additionally at this inspection, all plumbing should be completed and pressurized for inspection.

3rd Scheduled Inspection - This inspection is scheduled when the entire pool is completed and the pool is filled. State law requires that pool barriers be in place prior to filling the pool. These barriers must be installed and code compliant before a final inspection can be scheduled. Barriers include not only fencing and/or screened enclosures but also window and door alarms that are required by Code.
