The Community Development Department is primarily responsible for administrating, directing, coordinating, and supervising land development regulation functions and City operations involving site planning, permitting, inspections, geographical information
systems and mapping. The department's work is divided into three programs:

The Administration Division is responsible for the overall operations of the Community Development Department. This includes general oversight of the Planning and Development and Building divisions, preparation of the Department budget, and the purchasing functions.

In addition, the administration serves as support staff for the City's annexation program which includes the Annexation Committee, and support staff for the Business District Redevelopment Planning Team.

The Administration Division is also is instrumental in the City' s economic development efforts, as well as the Downtown Redevelopment Project.

PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT

City of Temple Terrace Zoning MapPlanning and Development is responsible for for coordination and implementation of the City's land development regulation and review process.

Key areas of responsibility include

  • Site plan review
  • Comprehensive plan changes
  • Rezoning
  • Variances
  • Business district redevelopment planning, including support staff to the City's Community Redevelopment Agency
  • Maintenance of the City's Geographic Information System (GIS) database

The Planning and Development Division Manager/City Planner oversees the Planning and Development Division.

BUILDING

The Building Division has two main functions:

  1. Regulation of building construction activities through permitting and inspection
  2. Enforcement of the non-criminal aspect of city codes with regard to private and public property.

This includes enforcement of the minimum housing code. The Housing Rehabilitation Program Hillsborough County is frequently utilized to help citizens eliminate code enforcement violations
