City of Temple Terrace to begin reopening facilities on Monday, May 18 with restrictions
The Family Recreation Complex and Library will reopen on Monday, May 18 with new, temporary operating hours and other restrictions. City Hall remains closed, however the City Council meeting will be held May 19, with opportunities for public comment.
The City of Temple Terrace will reopen its Family Recreation Complex, 6610 Whiteway Dr., on Monday, May 18. The new, temporary hours will be 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. The Temple Terrace Public Library, 202 Bullard Parkway, likewise will open its doors to the public on Monday, operating from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. In addition to reduced hours, not all services, programs or materials will be available. All City buildings were closed to the public in March due to concerns and cautions surround the COVID-19 pandemic.
Entry to the Recreation Complex will be restricted to members only. All minors 17 and younger must be accompanied by parent or caregiver at all times. Building capacity will be limited, as will access to the tennis and basketball courts and the pool (pool hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Players should bring their own basketballs. Those wishing to use lap lanes or tennis courts can register for a time slot at the front desk or by calling 813.506.6600 for tennis and 813.506.6615 for lap lanes. Use of face coverings is encouraged and members must sanitize or wash their hands upon entry and maintain social distancing at all times. Water fountains will be unavailable. The Fitness Center remains closed.
The Family Recreation Complex also will be accepting priority registration for Summer Camps beginning on May 18 for City residents/members only. Regular registration will begin on May 26. The camp will run from June 1 to August 7 and is limited to children entering first through fifth grades. Call 813.506.6600 for prices and details. Note that availability is very limited.
Building capacity will be restricted to 25 percent at the Temple Terrace Public Library. Minors 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult at all times. Visits will be limited to one hour. Computers, hard copy magazines and newspapers will not be available, and the Book Nook remains closed. Patrons will be required to sanitize or wash their hands before use of the facility and maintain social distancing. All patrons must wear face coverings. The Book Drop reopened on May 11.
City Hall, Public Works and Omar K. Lightfoot Center remain closed to the public. Staff from all departments are available to answer questions and provide assistance. A phone directory and other information is available on the City’s website at templeterrace.com.
While the May 19 City Council meeting will be held at scheduled, the public will not be admitted to the Council Chambers. Attendance will be limited to those deemed essential who have been notified in advance. As always, the meeting, which starts at 6 p.m., will be broadcast “live” on Spectrum Channel 641 and Frontier Channel 39, as well as on the City’s YouTube channel.
Members of the public who wish to comment on items not on the agenda may do so in person via remote access from the City Hall parking lot, 11250 N. 56th St., beginning at 6 p.m. Public comment on items on the agenda will be accommodated in person or via email or telephone.
