Please read the following guidelines that control sheds and accessory structures on residential and commercial properties in Temple Terrace. These rules are necessary to keep our city safe and attractive for all residents. City ordinances limit storage sheds and other accessory structures to rear yards set back at least five feet from any property line and three (3) feet from the principal structure and kept in good repair. Temporary use of cargo containers, PODS and similar storage structures cannot exceed thirty (30) days.
Remove cargo containers, relocate storage sheds to meet code standards and maintain all accessory structures in good repair.

Accessory Building – a building which is customarily incidental and subordinate to a principal use of property and is located upon said property.

Section 25.710.4 Accessory Uses, Buildings or Structures
Pool and accessory structure setbacks shall be in full compliance with the yard and buffering requirements of the applicable zoning district, except as follows:
(a) Except as otherwise may be provided in this Section, swimming pools, patios, decks and other outdoor living areas, including screened enclosures, not having a roof impervious to weather, must be located only within a rear yard; provided that no such allowed uses shall be located nearer than five (5) feet to any property line. An additional setback from the lot line of one (1) foot shall be required for each one (1) foot of enclosure height not having a roof impervious to the weather that exceeds eleven (11) feet. The maximum slope thus established may be extended and enclosures may rise accordingly, but no part of any enclosure shall rise in height above the prescribed slope and no enclosure shall exceed the maximum height of any accessory structure which is twenty-four (24) feet. Consequently, the following heights are the maximum allowed at the corresponding setbacks:

(b) Except as otherwise provided in this section, detached accessory buildings and structures, including but not limited to garages, carports and storage sheds, but excluding uses set forth under Subsection (a) above, must be located within a rear yard; provided that no such building or structure shall be located nearer than five (5) feet to any property line and not closer than three (3) feet to the principal structure. On corner lots, no detached accessory building or structure shall be located forward of the building line of the principal structure. An additional setback from a lot line of one (1) foot shall be required for each foot of total building or structure height exceeding eleven (11) feet, until a setback of ten (10) feet is reached.
(c) Total combined building coverage of all principal permitted and accessory buildings and structures shall not exceed the maximum building coverage allowed within the applicable zoning district.
(d) No permanent building or structure shall be located within a publicly dedicated easement.
(e) There shall be full compliance with the off-street parking and service requirements of the applicable zoning district.
(f) On lots that about the Temple Terrace golf course, accessory buildings and structures may be located in the side yard. On corner lots, no detached accessory building or structure shall be located forward of the building line of the principal structure. Accessory structures in a side yard shall maintain a minimum five (5) feet setback.

Section 27.750 Minimum Standards (Minimum Housing Code)
No person shall occupy, let, or sub-let to another, for occupancy any building, dwelling unit, structure, accessory structure, designed or intended to be used for the purpose of living, sleeping or cooking or eating therein which does not comply with the requirements hereinafter set forth, nor shall any vacant dwelling, building, structure, or premises be permitted to exist which does not comply with the applicable following requirements:
(m) Exterior and Interior of Structures
(13) Accessory Structure - All accessory structures shall be maintained in a manner so as to avoid deterioration, and shall be kept in good repair and sound structural condition. All exterior surfaces, other than decay-resistant woods, shall be protected from the elements by paint or other protective covering applied and maintained according to the manufacturer's specifications.
