The Temple Terrace Aquatics Center

The Temple Terrace Aquatics Complex, located within the Family Recreation Complex, includes five swimming pools and two sand volleyball courts.

The main heated pool, 25 yards x 25 meters, is used for all swim programs and includes two diving boards and a tunnel slide. The fun pool area includes a 3,000 square foot pool that accommodates water volleyball, a 152-foot water slide and plunge pool and an oversized “Funbrella” shelter.

The Kiddie area includes a children’s wading pool, covered canopy and kiddie water playground complete with animal slides and a variety of fountains.

All these areas are available for private parties and rentals on a limited basis.

A $2 surcharge will apply to all pool users while heaters are in operation. Proper pool attire must be worn at all times.

  • Saturday and Sunday 10am - 3:30pm

Lifeguard Classes

Registration now is underway for American Red Cross Lifeguard Training at the Family Recreation Complex. Participants will receive certification in Lifeguard Training, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Standard First Aid. This course is accepted by most area water parks and municipal swimming pools for lifeguard candidates.

FEE: • $200 per person (includes books)


• Must be able to pass swim test – 300 meter swim; two minute tread and 10 pound brick retrieval.

• Students must be 15 years and older CLASS I (January):

• Sunday, January 9 – Pre-test 10am - noon

• Sunday, January 16 and 23 – 8:30am - 3:30pm CLASS II (February): 

• Sunday, February 13 – Pre-test 10am - noon

Team Velocity’s Adult Swim Club is for those who swim competitively or would like to; are training for triathlons or cross training for another sport, or who simply aim to improve their swimming skills and enhance overall endurance. Team Velocity is a year-round, not-for-profit, USA Swimming sanctioned team that offers competitive, age group, and senior swimmers of varying abilities the opportunity to hone their skills in a healthy and nurturing environment. We welcome swimmers of all levels of ability and offer a range of programming suitable for swimmers from pre-competitive to national level.

Swim Groups, Schedules & Pricing

Schedules, criteria for swim group placement, and pricing are detailed on Team Velocity’s website. Both local and travel meets are scheduled approximately once per month and all levels of swimmers are encouraged to compete. Learn to Swim

Swim classes consist of eight lessons. The length of the class depends on the swimmers age and ability. Swim tests are required for level 3 and higher. Note that classes fill up quickly. Price for members: $50; for non-member: $70. Call 813.506.6600 for details.

Aqua Babies

Ages 6 months – 3 years  4–4:30pm

Parents introduce children to basic skills that lay the foundation for learning to swim. Learn how to work with your child to prepare them for a variety of water safety skills.

Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills

Get oriented to the aquatic environment and learn elementary skills including buoyancy drills and water movement.Tots (3-5 years old), 30 minutes – 4–4:30pm or 6:15–6:45pm

Regular (6-12 years old), 40 minutes – 4:40–5:20pm

Level 2: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

This level breaks down freestyle and backstroke skills so that swimmers will glide through the water unsupported.

Tots (3-5 years old), 30 minutes – 4–4:30pm

Regular (6-12 years old), 40 minutes – 4:40-5:30pm

Level 3: Stroke Development

Learn the mechanics of breaststroke, while practicing freestyle and backstroke details in the full length of the pool.

5-12 years old, 40 minutes – 5:30-6:10pm

Level 4: Stroke Improvement

Participants will accomplish all four strokes in this level, while gaining techniques in kneeling dives and flip turns.

6-12 years old, 40 minutes – 5:30-6:10pm

Level 5: Stroke School

This level is designed to build endurance on skills in every stroke for a smooth transition onto swim team.

6-12 years old, 50 minutes – 5:30-6:10pm


Grow swimming skills at any level; from getting more comfortable in the water to developing stroke techniques.

13 and up, 50 minutes – 6:15– 7pm

6 months – adults

8 individual lessons, 30 minutes in length. Members: $150 / non-members: $225
